US Middle East envoy Anthony Zinni is demanding that Israel and the Palestinian Authority make significant decisions within the next 48 hours or else he will return home, Israel radio reported.
He apparently made his comments during this afternoon's joint security meeting between Israeli, Palestinian and American officials in Jerusalem.
When he arrived in Israel, Zinni said he would stay as long as it takes to broker a stable cease-fire.

I wish he would not wait for the 48 hours, but just return home now. And I wish that Israel would go ahead and do what everyone knows it must. Do what it has to do: "what thou doest, do quickly."
How many dozens, how many hundreds, of these deadlines has Arafat ignored, talked around, pretended to attempt compliance? No wonder he and the Muslims see it all as a sign of Western, and Israeli, weakness. Brutal force is all they will ever understand.

Brutal force is all they will ever understand. That is 100% true. How else do we explain the fact that Palestinians haven't caused trouble in Jordan after he slaughtered them by tens of thousands (black september).

The threat to leave could be read as a serious matter. If U.S. policy changed from actively trying to restrain violence and broker peace to one of letting the situation sort itself out through natural selection, the consequences for Arafat and crew would be severe. I tend to agree with this view.
US has always had a heavy hand in the "peace discussions", and look what's always taken place- terrorism with no repercussions. If we remove ourselves from the process, that leaves Israel unteathered to do as she sees fit.
The PA really doesn't want that

When he arrived in Israel, Zinni said he would stay as long as it takes to broker a stable cease-fire. I guess he changed his mind about never seeing home again.

Agreed. A pox upon both their houses! Get the US out of the middle east! Finally, brooklyn, we're in total agreement.

> I guess Zinni is part of the 23% of Americans who believe Israel and the terrorist Palestinian Authority are BOTH to blame. During the press conference Zinni also weighed in on other historic conflicts, announcing that in the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. and the Japanese were equally responsible, in Eastern Europe during WWII, the Nazis and the Jews were equally at fault, and that Nichole Simpson made O.J. mad and therefore was just as guilty.America, government by the spewed out.

Makes me wonder where certain "Americans" loyalties lie..I was a US "submariner" were you?
To: Queen Elizabeth of Iowa
Check your loyalties. Are you with the US or not?
BTW: I'm from Iowa, so let's not get into that "where ya from" crap.

Only a complete victory over all the Islamic terrorist organizations, and the nations that support them, will allow the peace process to progress.
To: Yehuda
So, you stand against the US, Yehuda? Well, that point will be taken seriously by a lot of folks on the FR.
To: Cinnamon Girl
Are you an American? Like Bush said "you're either with us or against us" Which side are you on?
To: crystalk
So, if you don't support the US and its foreign policy, what does that make you?

The side you are on is not mine, and I am an American. I guess that makes YOU my enemy.

What are you talking about!?!? Of course I'm an American. How dare you. My family has a LONG history of fighting for this country, and my brother is currently doing so in the Navy. I was expressing my frustration that one of our representatives would be resorting to this "both sides are naughty" talk again, after all that has happened.

Right, Unless the U.S. has actually realized the true nature of the Islamics then Zinni will stay while Arafat turns into the good witch of the west.
