And what's wrong with that? All of us New Yorkers are not like you-know-who. I don't know about upstate (where you are) but all the women downstate are either 1. Annoying Jewish girls whose parents hate you or 2. Materialistic Italian girls from Staten Island and LI who wouldn't know class even if they were in a school. 3. Women from Lawn Guyland of ANY ethnicity who are about as loveable as a case of persitis.

I agree that there is definitely something wrong in the singles world. My son is 23, intelligent and hard working - at his age he is already making approx. $50,000/yr. which in the midwest is pretty decent. He has problems dating because he is your typical "nice guy". He was raised to respect women and most girls these days just cannot figure that out. He has had girls literally think there is something wrong with him if he's not trying to grope them on the first and second date!

Well, I can assure you that I am none of those. Having been from New York, I am sure you can understand when I tell you there is a whole new world outside of NYC and Lawnguyland.
Don't get me started on materialistic/annoying/angry/low-class people, as they exisist among both sexes and in all states.

Interesting, but smacks of wishful thinking. Factor in the number of gay men, the cultural freedom of a man to choose "up" (in age or status) or "down"...I'm not buying this shortage story. I dunno, as a trooper down in trenches (I'm a 29 YO dude) I've got plenty of amigos in the mid twenties and mid thirties and I have seen the switch happen. I dunno what can be wishful thinking, though, I mean, the math works out. What they don't mention, though, is how all the good girlies get scooped up in the early twenties, and all that's left for us are the ones who need Prozac more than a man. (I pinged innocentbystander 'cause he usually has great insight about these topics)
Silver anniversary this year! But worried about lovely daughter's future prospects in a world much changed...
Congrats on your aniversary! Send me a picture of your lovely daughter and I'll help ya out :-)

Well, as a "Wrong Island" native I have to say you are, unfortunately, about 95% right. The absence of any real class among a group of people who, on average, are among the wealthiest and best-educated in the country is truly scary.

49, single, and loving it. But it is more than a little disconcerting to have a conversation with a woman you've just met at a party and hear her complain that the good ones are all taken. Kinda hard to know just how to take that...
To: David
That reminds me of a little story.
I was ridding down an elevator with my boss a few years back and a beautiful young woman walked into the elevator and rode to the bottom with us. When we stepped out, he says to me, "Did you see that woman?"
I answer, "see her, that was the longest relationship I have had in months!"
Before I get flamed, I KNOW education and material wealth are NOT guarantors of having class. My point is simply that these people don't even have the EXCUSE of being "underprivileged" to justify their behavior...

Just tell her, "Yeah, all the good chicks are taken, too."

The BeastHey! That's what I call my ex-girlfriend. "If you speak not the name of The Beast, it cannot harm you."

Just tell her, "Yeah, all the good chicks are taken, too." LOL! I'll keep that one in mind. But it's happened twice now, and I swear the lady in both cases was perfectly polite and perfectly earnest. Talk about a blow to the ego!

Ugh. Thanks for the cheery Friday ping, Benny... With this article and the feminism article form a couple of days ago, I think I may have to go down south and attempt to woo a Belle looking to relocate to Yankee country. But now I hear there's a shortage of women. Anyone seen my flask? Thank God for weekends.

Do we know eachother? Either that or we have dated the SAME girls...
To: Billthedrill
But it is more than a little disconcerting to have a conversation with a woman you've just met at a party and hear her complain that the good ones are all taken. That's just like the timeworn "None of my relationships have ever worked out." The key to analyzing that is: Who was the one constant factor in all those relationships?
To: TroutStalker
HAIL, HAIL!my brethern: having experienced the challenges listed in the article, i suggest the foreign 'market', particularly if you're tired of the "career woman". a guy's gotta be 'resourceful'...kinda relates to econ theory for some folks. don't cave for "second best", though second best also has been set forth as an 'optimum'....go get'em, as your desires guide ya.
