Now, if there is a question of criminal activity on the part of Elian's father - then the courts are to be called into play. Of course, if the father's crime is his political idealogy - then have we not become Nazi Germany?

The father commited no crime and his idealogy was not part of the problem. The main problem was time and distance and custody and that was being worked out in court. The child was here and being cared for. There was no emergency or abuse involved. The hearing was scheduled and the whole thing would've been cleared up by a Judge according to his best ability to interpret the laws involved. There was no reason to use midnight police raids and deadly force. Had anyone on either side got itchy fingers that night there would've been a bloodbath. Of all people, you would think that Janet Reno would've already learned that lesson, after having burned scores of people to a crisp at Waco.

Comparing the struggle to maintain a little boy on free soil, versus sending him off to grow up bereft of civil and human rights, to becoming Nazi Germany is another one of those red herrings tossed up by the left. Fighting to ensure that all people enjoy the freedoms we believe God grants every human being is what the people supporting Elian's rights tried to do, I don't recall Nazi Germany fighting to protect anyone's civil or human rights, IF in fact, we had been able to maintain Elian free, we would have made a statement to the world, we would have resoundingly confirmed that we do truly believe that all men are CREATED equal, and with inalienable rights to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness granted by God from birth.

Most conservatives I know are willing to go to war to protect the first inalienable right listed in the Declaration of Independence, the right to Life. We denied Elian the second right listed, the right to Liberty, and we did it in the name of father's rights, of Juan Miguel's rights, a man who has no rights.

I don't get it, a fetus has the right to be born in spite of the parent's wishes, but a child has no right to Liberty out of respect for the parent's wishes?
