Next? If you're yawning, go to sleep.
With luck, you'll wake to Ashcroft's announcement that he's sending 5,000 more troops to the Canadian border.

Onyx,

"POSSE COMITATUS ACT" (18 USC 1385): A Reconstruction Era criminal law proscribing use of Army (later, Air Force) to "execute the laws" except where expressly authorized by Constitution or Congress. Limit on use of military for civilian law enforcement also applies to Navy by regulation. Dec '81 additional laws were enacted (codified 10 USC 371-78) clarifying permissible military assistance to civilian law enforcement agencies--including the Coast Guard--especially in combating drug smuggling into the United States. Posse Comitatus clarifications emphasize supportive and technical assistance (e.g., use of facilities, vessels, aircraft, intelligence, tech aid, surveillance, etc.) while generally prohibiting direct participation of DoD personnel in law enforcement (e.g., search, seizure, and arrests). For example, Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachments (LEDETS) serve aboard Navy vessels and perform the actual boardings of interdicted suspect drug smuggling vessels and, if needed, arrest their crews). Positive results have been realized especially from Navy ship/aircraft involvement.

Is Ashcroft crazy, I see National Guard in airports and they are just standing around, cutting up, joking around, chewing the fat. I doubt they would be a deterance to anything. They do a good job in weather /storm related events, but get them out of airports and keep them away from the borders.

2nd request, and I don't type just to see it. HOW DO THOSE NATIONAL GUARD PEOPLE GET FED. Are we paying for them to eat at Ruby Tuesday, or To get free (AT TAXPAYER EXPENSE) STARBUCKS COFFEE??!! iT'S MY right TO KNOW THESE KIND OF THINGS!! They are paid one the average$32.00 per day per deim for meals. They usually eat on the local econemy. It is cheaper than having food prepared specially for them. Otherwise they are given M.R.E.s which cost the Gov about 12.00 each.
Happy Now ?

Ok- now we need to get them of the airports. All I see is a bunch of National Guardsmen cutting up and talking and I don't think they are a real deterrent to the suicidal maniac terrorists. And they do look silly in their berets. I'm not against them, just want them out of airports. Maybe put them out on the "feeder roads" that lead into the airports and parking areas to check the vehicles coming in.
