Now if you could just give me a way to go back through my self-search and delete the 700 replies I made to threads that are going to annoy people for weeks.................... (o: Not to worry, you're allowed to be annoying. :-}

WHAT WOULD BE THE MERITS OF . . .
WHAT WOULD BE THE MERITS OF . . . SETTING UP AN ACCOUNT to build an emergency contingency fund for Jim and John? Perhaps for legal reasons, it would best be kept in some other group's name so litigants could not get at it but that it would be readily available should they need it in a hurry. . . . also, the fund could be used for emergency needs of FR, of course. But my thought was that Jim and John are on the line more or less constantly in terms of vulnerability. And it seems to me that such a buffer amount of say $100,000 would be well warranted and might afford them some greater peace of mind. . . . in any case, given all they've given, it seems a very fitting thing to do.
What would the views of wiser heads than mine hereon about this be?
I'd be interested in public or private replies.

"I think many people were educated as to the actual costs to run this large of a site." I think you are right. I know I had no idea! It sure made me appreciate Jim and John and their commitment in a whole new way, and it made me think about how much I depend on Free Republic. I have made a point of making other FReeper friends aware as well. Its just great that there has been such a wonderful response!
To: Quix; Alamo-Girl
Haven't asked her privately, but perhaps Alamo-Girl would be the best one to "hold" such an account. All would trust her yet I think she's legally independent enough that the courts couldn't get grabby. The amount needn't even be published. Those who felt comfortable donating under the given conditions would and those who didn't wouldn't. . . . If Alamo-Girl, for example, felt the fund was low or adequate, she could say so in general terms. . . that way we could help Jim, John and FR without adding legal vulnerability for them--I THINK--a layman on such matters--JUST BRAINSTORMING, tossing around an idea at present. . .

To: Quix
Er, I humbly thank you so very much for your vote of confidence in me, Quix!!! However, I would think any such contingency fund would best be trusted to a professional fiduciary type - like a CPA, banker or attorney.
To: Alamo-Girl
WELL UNDERSTOOD Alamo-Girl,
But some people would be more wary of such they didn't know of compared to the tireless, brilliant, exhaustively knowledgeable, sacrificially servant-hearted, famous Alamo-Girl--FREEPER EXTRAORDINAIRE and wonderful daughter of The Most High God. . . . anyway . . . just wanted to run the idea by you. . . . your sensibilities easily accepted. . . any other thoughts on the idea?

I noticed I could contribute via PayPal, which I promptly did. Took me less than a minute. This could have speeded up contributions.

The idea has merit---great merit. Is it a do-able idea?
