I know some pro-choice republicans who were quite comfortable with Reagan, because he talked a tough game on abortion, but never really did anything about it.
Either you're B.S.ing or you're ignorant.
President Reagan signed an executive order that became known as the "Mexico City policy," banning the use of taxpayer funds for promoting abortion here and abroad.
He instituted a ban on abortions in U.S. military hospitals.
He appointed Antonin Scalia associate justice and elevated William Rehnquist to the post of chief justice of the Supreme Court - two of the most ardently pro-life and anti-Roe justices he could have picked.
He issued an Emancipation Proclamation for Preborn Children and wrote a passionate defense of the pro-life cause, Abortion and the Conscience of the Nation for the journal, Human Life Review.
In short, Ronald Reagan did about all he could, in his executive capacity, to defend the unborn. Under our system (and hampered by a pro-death Democrat congress), he could not overturn what nine black-robed men decreed by fiat in 1973.
The judical fiat that was Roe was a 5 -4 decision.
