I am at work, so I have to hold them back. I am so proud that this man could not only restore the dignity of the office back to normal, but elevate the bar for those after him.
When I read this, it reminded me of Truman as well:
"Down to earth. Like Harry Truman. What he says isn't all flowered up; he just says it, and it means a lot, you know."
I remember a story about how Truman used to always thank the help and even celebrated the end of WWII with the WH Staff. They remarked that in FDR's many years he had never thanked them for a damn thing, let alone talk to them.
I actually remember Truman's presidency. He wasn't perfect but he certainly never got above himself. He remembered just what a terrible responsibility the Presidency was till the day he left office. I will never forget watching an interview with the slimy one and his wife. They said when they woke up the next morning they were convulsed with laughter that they were going to the White House. They never got it and never will. Unfortunately, the country still has a lot of folks who think they did a good job. G-d help us.
