E. Michael McCann is STILL the Milwaukee County DA.
I lived there when "Father" Groppi stirred up the blacks to riot in the late 60's. Last I heard, he was driving a bus! LOL!
Fr. Groppi has been dead for a few years now. Brain cancer, I think.
By the way ... does the Polar Bear Club still take their annual dip in Lake Michigan on New Years Day?
Yes, and yours truly and Mrs. brewcrew (WIladyconservative) are official, baptized Polar Bears. Only did it once - 1987. Once was enough. Ain't enough booze'd get me to do that again.
Looked him up in google. He died in 1985, so it's been quite a while. He left the priesthood, then married. He worked as a Milwaukee bus driver, I do believe and he did die of brain cancer.
His parents had the most marvelous Italian meat market in Bay View. You'd walk in and almost become overwhelmed by the heady aromas. His dad made the best Italian sausage (both hot and mild) I've ever had.
I will NEVER FORGET the wonderful ethnic restaurants in Milwaukee!! German, Polish, Serb, GREEK (my favorite! I wonder if "Never On Sunday" is still there on the East Side by the Lake?)
Someday I'd like to go back and refresh some memories!
