Being that the thread has been pulled, I have no way of reading the article or comments. But i have seen comments below about "writst bands." I can tell you, as a former college kid who enjoyed Spring Break in various places, wrist bands are common practice at many hotels during spring break. Many are provided by and required by the travel company that you booked with and are used to identify you as their customer to make you eligible for whatever specials and events they have going on. I remember once, I got one from the hotel itself and one from the promotions company. Not an uncommon practice.

As far as comments I have seen regarding having to carry their own bags... get over it! I travel a great deal. I regularly stay in very nice, high priced hotels and the cheapest damn hotel in town. It is RARE that i have had my bags carried for me up to my room. Usually the best treatment I get is they provide me with a cart to put my stuff on and push it myself.

You've carried your own bags? You poor dear :) Normally when I go to a conference they try to help those with multiple bags carry them on the carts, more than likely so that they can then rush them back dowstairs instead of letting you spend your precious time hogging them.

Interesting point, Phantom. I could well believe that wrist bands are required for these kinds of events. If that is indeed the case, then it may not have been a racist incident at all. I'm well aware of this, and that's why I don't see anything wrong with questioning the justice of this case.

What appalled me is the way some people just assumed that the hotel must be in the right and the black guests must be in the wrong. In the absence of facts, they just decided that it was a race-based ripoff. And I think that's a racist thing to do. But the nasty racist remarks of some posters made it even worse.
