Racism runs wild at FR

JimRob can't be expected to police every thread. But the rank, appalling racism of some comments made during the discussion of the Adams Mark lawsuit really is quite beyond the pale. Your thoughts?

So blacks are really inferior people who have a low mentality level? Ok.

Try reading my post more closely. You misunderstood.

Interesting point, Phantom. I could well believe that wrist bands are required for these kinds of events. If that is indeed the case, then it may not have been a racist incident at all. I'm well aware of this, and that's why I don't see anything wrong with questioning the justice of this case.

What appalled me is the way some people just assumed that the hotel must be in the right and the black guests must be in the wrong. In the absence of facts, they just decided that it was a race-based ripoff. And I think that's a racist thing to do. But the nasty racist remarks of some posters made it even worse.

You'll rarely hear these songs about love life and loss. About how they love their kids and want more for themselves. About how hard life on the streets and jail can really be. Why? No profit in that. For every good there is a bad but you'll hardly hear those stories.

It's important, we communicate and tune the fate of this union, to the right pitch I never call you my bitch or even my boo There's so much in a name and so much more in you Few understand the union of woman and man And sex and a tingle is where they assume that it land But that's fly by night for you and the sky I write For in these cold Chi night's moon, you my light If heaven had a height, you would be that tall Common The Light

When we conservatives tell it like is on FR, it isn't racism.

BTW, your comparison of Jazz to gangsta rap, even if only accidental, is despicable.

Actually, I wasn't comparing the two types of music. I was comparing the reactions people have had to the two forms of music.

I know you aren't claiming that slavery is the only cause of the minority crime problem, but saying that it is A CAUSE is still wrong. Minority crime rates didn't soar to present levels until after the welfare culture destroyed the black family unit, which was in pretty good shape until the 1960's. If not getting into a restaraunt after WWII is to be considered a cause for black rage and crime, then why did it take so long for crime rates to soar (I know black crime rates were higher than white rates in the post-war era, but not as disproportionate as it has been for the last three decades or so).

As far as your namby pamby privileged line, that's BS. My family is a family of immigrants who have fought in America's wars and still faced hostilities here. My parents, my in-laws, their parents, and now my wife and I have all worked damn hard for all that we have. There has been no privileged background for this Freeper. Take you white privilege line and peddle it on Democrap Undergroomed.

Leave aside the fact that most of Africans arriving in this country arrived as free men/women (a perhaps startlingly small percentage arrived as slaves). The oft overlooked fact is that all of those brought here as slaves were, in fact, slaves in Africa prior to being loaded on ships and brought here. Slavery in Africa existed long before it did in North America, and still exists there today, long after we banished it.

Because of that, black Americans are about 10 times as likely to have a slaveowner ancestor, or to be related to a current slaveowner, as any so-called "white" American. Slavery is a "peculiar institution" with roots in Africa. There was a sad attempt to transplant this cultural phenomonon to America, but it eventually died without taking root in freedom's fertile soils.

African slavery did infest these shores for over 300 years, and it took a lot of righteous blood to purge it from our country. No thanks are necessary, but I wish the race-hustlers would cease their shameful efforts extract guilt-money from the descendants of those who rid this country of this vile infestation.

And to blame the current societal breakdown in much of the black community on past racism and slavery, is laughable, and more an indictment of African heritage than the race-baiters seem to realize.

You are right, OPH. There is a very small but obnoxious contingent of FReepers who do despise all that is non-white. Like I said, they are a small group, and certainly are not representative of FR though.

But when people say this, I just shake my head.

Rap has some incredible talent. The rythyms are beyond superb in some works. The dance ability and style are yes...distinctive and the vocals...unique. However, and that's a big however, the majority of the crap played on mainstream radio is dialogue that has very little to no redeeming value. The bulk of rap music videos are simply narcissistic at best. And most speak to the decline of what I consider higher ideals.

Tell me otherwise.

IMHO, the only forms of bigotry really permitted to run wild at FR are Islamophobia and anti-Arabism. Stereotypes about other groups turn up occasionally.

By all means, leave aside this fact...because it's rubbish. Where on earth did you learn your history? Back issues of Southern Partisan magazine?

Starting high school, I was transplanted from the midwest where everyone was caucasian. I had no feelings one way or the other when I moved to Largo, Florida, about other races. I became a target of tall, black chicks in the hallways - I was pushed and shoved and when I was in the band drill team, when we had to line up to unload the uniforms and hats, the same black chicks always fumbled the stuff they were passing to me so that I'd get yelled at by the head of the drill team for dropping stuff. I stayed silent.

It is thirty years later and I still remember how these high school girls treated a naive, well meaning girl trying to get by in a new school. Maybe if a person has one bad experience or two with someone of a different race, that affects them in a permanent way. However, my favorite singer who is no longer with us is Ella Fitzgerald. I also enjoy listening to Billie Holiday recordings. But, then again, they didn't push me, shove me or play me like I was played 30 years ago.

You must also keep in mind that there are lots of members here. I didn't even see the Adam's Mark thread because of my legal background, I have grown to hate most attorneys, to hate lawsuits attacking corporations because they have deep pockets. Racism does not run wild at free republic - that is not a news headline. It is your opinion and you are jumping to conclusions. Visit a prayer thread sometime where there is only love and hope. Like George Harrison said before he died but Jesus said it first "Love one another." There is more compassion here than hate but then again were any of these people harrassed like I was and they are incapable of forgiving or forgetting?

"Where was the "center" vote in the black community?"

I haven't denied any of these problems. As a matter of fact, just yesterday, I posted about a similar "post office" situation that occurred in a Baton Rouge election. Nothing came of it. We all know why.

Race baiting might get more votes in the black community because it helps to get out the vote. As far as I can tell, however, race baiting does nothing for the right, and actually does a lot of harm. Besides, it's just plain wrong.

It's all in the "tone".

Give me a break. Comparing old blues lyrics like "You make my jelly roll" etc to "kill the white devil" is asinine.

Try a little harder, your comparison is laughable.

Hell no! You're dead-on. The same is true for almost any form of music played on the radio though.

I've heard this theory bandied about quite a bit Kevin, and it's as insulting as they come.

The idea being that the 90% of blacks who vote Demo are slaves, and are to stupid to realize it.

Bill Campbell, mayor of Atlanta, who is black and a democrat says that there is not one black person in America who has ever accomplished anything worthwhile without the help of an affirmative action program.

The democrats, and "black leaders" in America today either truely believe blacks are incapable of succeeding on their own, or purposefuly keep them down to prevent them from succeeding and becoming republicans because of taxes and economic issues. The democrat party truly is running a plantation. A large majority of blacks when polled on school choice and vouchers support them. Yet the democrats are 100% against them and the blacks continue to vote for them 90%+ and willingly condemn their children to poor education and a dismal future because of it.

At the beginning of the 20th century, not far removed from slavery and the civil war, black families had divorce rates on par with whites and the % of black children born out of wedlock was on par with whites. The limited education and employment opportunities at that time could directly be attributed to racisim, prejudice, and laws and a society that reflected it. Today, divorce and out of wedlock births among blacks is astronomical. It is a CULTURE problem, not a racisim problem. And the black vote for democrats has been 90%+ for 50+ years, and during that time the situation for the black community has not improved, but in many cases has worsened.

I'm personally disturbed by the lack of compassion for hispanics and other immigrants by some (especially "social") conservatives, who claim to be Christians. Most Christians I know care deeply for other people, but it seems some on FR are a different breed altogether. (This is not a bash against Christians.)

I don't begrudge someone who attempts to come to America to work and contribute and improve the lives of themselves and their loved ones. Freedom is every man's birthright.

My parents were immigrants (Dad Palestenian, Mom Lebanese - Christians), and I am infintely gratefull that they came to America. I thank God for it whenever I think about it.
