The US is planning to confront Saudi Arabia with evidence that funds from the country are flowing to terrorist organisations.
Despite pressure from the US, the Saudi Government is believed to have done little to stanch the flow of funds to the al-Qaeda terrorist network.
Washington has till now not presented evidence to merit a crackdown but US diplomat Bill Burns would soon go to Saudi Arabia taking with him intelligence data linking some of the kingdom's leading money-men and charities to Osama bin Laden.
The data will include sensitive intercepts, human intelligence and wire transfers to back up American demands that Saudis freeze assets of suspected bin Laden financiers.
One Saudi in Burns' list cited by the Time magazine is wealthy businessman Yasin al-Qadi, who is alleged to have raised millions of dollars for a charity named by the US as a possible bin Laden front.
Al-Wadi has repeatedly protested his innocence and is challenging a freeze on his assets in a court in Britain. However, the US last week shipped to London a hefty package of intelligence data to strengthen the British case, American sources said.
Al-Qadi says his charity Blessed Relief has long been dormant, a contention echoed by a senior Saudi official. But the US sources say that intelligence shows movements of people, money and weapons to Muslim fighters in Bosnia financed by the charity as recently as 1999.
Lol. I feel slightly nauseous thinking about Sauds boiling out of Kuwait. Or boiling out of their suits, which probably makes it a blessing with those circus tents they wear. Now, if you're just talking about Sauds boiling, I'm quite agreeable ;)
Do a search on Google for "Carlyle Group" and see what comes up.
The Saudi Muslim/Arabs are duplicitous SOBs.
The only useful result of this exercise is to give the Saudis the means to tell their terrorist surrogates how to be more careful about covering their money trail.
I hope you will take some time to read about them.
It has always fascinated me how the Israelis hate the Saudis so much particularly since the Saudis have spent the past 53 years ignoring them.
I was particularly offended by that idiot character who went to NY and waved the check under Rudy's nose. And the Saudis may 'ignore' Israel in your estimation but they give aid and comfort to the Palestinians and pressured the USA on the matter, using 9-11 as leverage. Unseemly.
Makes total sense to me.
Saudi Arabia has financed terrorism under the table for decades, and Israel until recently has borne the brunt of it.
The only thing new is that now the rest of the world is beginning to notice the connection.
No problem. Just get Red Cross to stop misappropriating funds to help out your terrorist friends and their dependents, and it'll probably make up that shortfall..
Oh I know. You are busy doing research, aren't you?
Well, some probably can be. Few and far between, luckily :).
