It was very difficult to read the account, John, but I DO thank you for the ping to it.
War, no matter if it is a "new kind" or not, is a horror for all involved. It is bitter to know we had no choice, but an honor to know there are those willing to bear the burden for us all! Bless them and may they return home soon.

The battle was finally over. It had ended as it started, with a surrender. And its story held within its chapters a brutal lesson. The war against terrorism, they like to say, is a new form of war. But at Qala-i-Jangi, as the blood of horses and dead young men snaked into the dust, the oldest form of war imaginable seemed to have made a cruel and bitter return.

Thanks John. Quite an article.

Absolutely riveting narrative...

The truth is often stranger than fiction, as this whole saga shows once again.

Interesting times, these.

Thanks BR !!!

Mini Bump backatcha!

WOW! This is one awesome read! I'm so proud of our guys there. But, I'll tell you one thing...our guys have been chomping at the bit to get there. They train for this for years, literally...365, 24/7. Some train their entire careers, and never see combat. They consider this to be the payoff. I'm very happy for these heroes...and every one of our troops that sets foot in, or flies the skies over, Afghanistan is a hero. Mike is someone I would have liked to have known. He laid down his life for our country...he had the right stuff!
