"Now is the time to go for the low hanging fruit: giving the Philippines assistance in crushing their own al Qaeda guerrillas."

Someone here on FR used this phrase several days ago. Could Krauthammer be a lurker? Poster?

"nattering nabobs of negativity."

Any idea who wrote those words for him (and it was negativism)? William Safire

Yes, it was "negativism." No, it wasn't Safire--not if Pat Buchannan's claim of authorship can be believed . . .

President Bush and his administration have returned an image of the United States that has been missing for 8 years.
Under the Clinton regime, we were seen a weak pushovers, with leaders that cared more about personal pleasure and prosperity than security.

The Bin Laden's of the world felt they had free reign to attack American interests with no consequences, and they were right.

A new sheriff rode into town, and the media said he was a stupid bumbling hick who cared only for business interests and nap taking.
Bin Laden heard his reviews and again thought he had a free ticket to murder the infidels and the "appointed" leader of the Free World would not have the resolve to retaliate since he did not win the popular vote, and would not have a mandate to send the troops.

But like the media and the democrats, Bin Laden underestimated this new Sheriff! He not only had the mandate, he didn't much care what anyone thought. He knew what he had to do. He stood up and declared that this terrorism would not stand, and unlike the military midget before him, he meant it. He assembled a team and a plan not unlike the shootout at the Ok Corral.

Thanks to the new Sheriff, American has something she hadn't had for several years, RESPECT!

Bin Ladens free ticket is revoked, as are all of the would be terrorists that flock to him. There is a new kid in town, and we are all better off because of him!

The war that began with the 1983 bombings in Beirut

One minor quibble:
The radical Islamist war started with Carter's disasterous moves in Iran, undermining the Shah and allowing Ayatollah Khomeini to return in 1979.

Otherwise, Krauthammer's written another great one.
