Yeah, I've converted to Islam because I don't like Bush's policy.

Frankly A.J. I do not give a damn whether or not you like the President's policies. There will be plenty of opportunity to discuss the wisdom of the President's approach, AFTER THE WAR IS OVER. That is one of the reasons to seek the earliest possible victory in the war. In the meantime, there are millions of people in the world, and tens to hundreds of thousands of people in this country who are doing their best to kill you and your family. Somewhat more importantly to me, they also are trying to kill my family. It is quite possible that scores of millions of Americans are not going to live to see the New Year, should the Al Khaeda nuclear weapons prove to be real. The only way that my family can be defended is if the President is successful in his defense of the country.

You are not the Commander in Chief. You are not going to become the Commander in Chief. By making the President and his administration turn his attention, even for a moment, from defeating our enemies to having to campaign for support from the American people, whose obligation it is to support him, you are endangering the lives of my family. An analogy might be made to a bus full of passengers, escaping from danger on a winding mountain road, with the President as the driver. And you are in the position of someone who comes forward and tries to grab the wheel from the driver's control, thus endangering all of the passenger's lives. I will do anything that I can to prevent you from grabbing that wheel.

The fact that this nation is at war makes it MORE imperative that we citizens do our duty and see that the Constitution is upheld. If we don't do it nobody else will.

Your bus analogy is faulty. It implies that Bush is the only one doing anything and we are all just along for the ride. If you want to be that passive, fine. You can have my seat.

Are you suggesting that we stop holding elections as long as the war is on? After all, making the President try to get re-elected will distract him, won't it?

We all care about our families too. Please put down the fiddle.

It is exactly the thought embodied in the bolded quote above that is extremely dangerous to the liberty of present and future americans.

It is not my obligation to support the president, it is the president's obligation to support the constitution. That's His Job. He's not doing that very well at the moment. He's prosecuting the undeclared 'war' well, but he's not doing anything to protect rights guaranteed us by the Constitution.

Whoa, the American people are obligated to support the President? The American people have no obligations to any politician. Bush is our employee. He isn't king, nor is he divine. He has a job to do and he is obligated to do it and to do it under the terms of the oath he swore when inaugurated. You really need to get your head on straight.

Americans don't have leaders in government. Elected officials are the hired help and they are the ones obligated to doing what they were hired to do. This ridiculous worship of politicians needs to stop.

It is unlikely that the war will ever be over, since its proposed purpose is to rid the world of terrorism, which will never happen. But at some point, I suppose, the war will no longer be useful to the government and might end. By that time, it is unlikely anyone will be discussing anything without the governments permission, and certainly not any of its policies, past or present.

I think we better do our talking now, or we won't be doing any.

Or maybe you just can't beleive it can happen here.

I thought it was liberals who exhorted the masses to ride buses.
