Check this out.

This has huge ramifications for Texas and for the US House of Representatives.

This is turning out to be a good day! Redistricting in TX going our way and now the FEC turned down the RATS request to suspend the rules on raising soft money!

This just makes my day!

And if Sanchez can pull out a squeaker over Lee Pee for Houston Mayor on Saturday, I'm gonna have a party.

I just want to savor this portion again:

But in delivering the Legislature to Republicans, the federal court has given the GOP an opportunity to make that Democratic victory short-lived.

A GOP legislative majority could redraw the congressional lines in 2003 and put Republicans in position to win a congressional delegation majority in the 2004 elections.

That's up your way. We're saddled with Sheila Jackson Lee down here in Houston. Next to her, Ken Bentsen and Nick Lampson pale, but they're pretty raunchy partisans themselves.

I think we'll be stuck with Jack-Lee and Lampson. It may be possible to redo the district north of Lampson that has Turner in it and get it more to a Republican possibility.

A couple points:
If you were in Tom Haywood's state senate district, be sure you vote next Tuesday!
Second... (having senior moment early)... Note that ALL statewide officeholders are already 'Pubbies, and the Dims can't even field a candidate in most statewide races!

EGGxcellent! It looks like if Texas is going to be a two party state that the Libertarians are going to have to get their act together. The Democrats appear headed for the proverbial dust heap. We'll see how the Republicans govern when they hold all of the power.

A GOP legislative majority could redraw the congressional lines in 2003 and put Republicans in position to win a congressional delegation majority in the 2004 elections.

Awesome news that goes far to reverse the Democrap victory in getting their own federal redistricting map approved a few weeks ago. Even though GOP House gains in the 2002 elections will be limited due to the Democrap victory earlier this month, continued GOP control of the House should be assured at least until 2006 by this TX state redistricting map victory.

SOL2--So what is your latest prediction on whether the GOP retains control of the House of Reps and whether it retakes control of the Senate?

Maybe they'll do better than the attempt in 94. You have a good one....

"A GOP legislative majority could redraw the congressional lines in 2003 "

How??? Don't we have to wait until 2011 to redraw lines?

Under what rules could we redraw district lines in 2003?

I know that redistricting has taken place mid-cycle before, but usually in response to a court order invalidating a previous map. Don't get me wrong... this would be GREAT news!

This business of positing re-redistricting if party control changes in the legislature in Texas strikes me as odd. States where control flips typically (actually almost always) don't redistrict in the midst of the 10 year cycle. I am not sure whether that is because it would be unpopular, or because it is illegal. Do you know?
