I've had a lot of fun on this site, getting news faster and in more depth than anyone in my immediate circle, posting comments, etc. Sometimes I get replies that are a little bit on the nasty side, but then again I probably deserve it because I like to push people's hot buttons. Sometimes I read things that don't turn out to have much substance, but that's OK too.

The question is: What would be a reasonable amount of support if shared among the active users, like myself? Can you give us an idea of the order of magnitude? If it's a couple of bucks a month, no problem. If it's over $10 per month, I'd have to think about it, fun as this site is. (P.S. -- if this information was already in one of the previous replies, sorry if I missed it. I didn't have time to read all 1,000+ posts.)

There are over 70,000 registered members on FReerepublic. If every one of them contributed $1 per month, we'd be in good shape. Of course, not all 70,000 are still active and not all will contribute, so that drives the contribution needed per member up.

Not everyone can afford to contribute and not everyone wants to, so the amount contributed is really up to the individual. Those who choose to contribute pick the amount they are comfortable with and it has managed to keep FR afloat so far.

There are many who get frustrated seeing the seeminly endless fundraising threads each quarter, but until we have sufficient monthly donations to pay the bills, they are a necessary fact of life.
