It would not be right if Free Republic went down because of some whining wimps holding a grudge. This is the greatest forum for free expression that exists on the internet but free expression bears responsibility and I applaud the careful monitoring and banning of those who are not capable of following a few basic simple rules that are based on good principles.
Long Live Free Republic and Thank You Jim Robinson.

The post are comming almost faster than I can read them. I hope the bucks follow as quickly. Mine will. I will be changing from random contributions to the monthly charge off to a credit card. I appreciate the work being done by all concerned and am happy to add my work in the form of dollars to keep this site alive. I understand the conservative, political nature of the site and came here during the election. But I would deeply miss the cheese threads if censoring became necessary. Also, I am still waiting to find out if that d!mn cat is dead or not. Sooner or later someone is gonna open that box and I want to read about it on FreeRepublic.

I think it's time to have posting priviledges reserved to paid sponsors. Monthly fee, with optional lower yearly rate. While I have been an irregular donor, I would certainly have kept myself paid up, if required (and I will donate this round).
We would see fewer of the fun-but-now-overwhelming type threads. Disruptors would melt away, or at least help support the forum they seek to destroy.
I've been a half-hearted user of other services that have instituted fees... and I stopped using them. This forum, I would not walk away from.
Thanks, Jim.

"I thought you were going to tell everyone what happened the time Eschoir took Viagra."You mean that he got taller?
Everyone that knows Eschy knows that!

Pleeeease stay! I am a lifelong conservative who feels like I have just come out of the wilderness into the friendly home of FreeRepublic. When I meet people who quietly agree that President Bush is doing a good job, or that they admire Laura Bush, or that they are closet conservatives, I always try to interest them in FR. Anti-freepers should not be able to turn you from your wonderful mission.

Mercy's a certifiable nut job.
He won't pay his way unless he's FORCED to.

Free Republic a fraud? Free Republic is FRaudulent to the extent that all us FReepers Creepers are FRaudulent. That makes us ONE GREAT BIG HAPPY FR FAMILY. So now, all you NON-Fraudulent purists, leave us alone.
WE'RE ADDICTED TO FR. HELP!!!!!!
After the law suit is no more, is it possible to charge a nominal fee for posting privileges?

Let's show those "other" dot-coms! This will be the one that never folds! It's time for another Freepathon.

To All:
There have been many well intentioned suggestions about supporting FRT through ad revenue (do we really want this site cluttered up with ads about K cars and Tidybowl anyway?), subscriptions, membership fees etc. At this point, FR cannot do any of these things without violating it's FAIR USE claim in the lawsuit. It's been gone over many times and the only viable way to fund this site is through the individual voluntary donations from it's fans. Taking subscriptions or membership fees would mean excerpting and linking and Jim (and most others) feel this would take away fromt he essential nature of the site. Plus, we'd have to lose ALL the archives.
BTW - Those that feel there should be a monthly fee can always sign up for a monthy donation. Six of one half dozen of another.

Jim, if you close down Free Republic then you play right into the liberal Democrats hands. This is just another way for them to silence Republicans. This site has allowed Republican to help get their message out. There is no site like it on the net. Why do you think the liberal left is attacking it the way they are. Stick to your guns, the Republican party and conservatives everywhere need Free Republic. Do what you have to to keep it going.

Sometimes these threads have an unfortunate (to my mind) "grovel" flavor to them, with effusive compliments directed your way and a whole bunch of backslapping going on. That's not really my style.
But in this case you have put out a serious question that I read with alarm. Free Republic a fraud? Your integrity in question? NEVER. This site is clearly run according the highest standards of accountability and transparency.
The political tenor of the forum is conservatism within the boundaries of sane discourse, which seems to irritate the 'tin-foil' crowd. But who cares? Let them whine.

I don't care if you are making $5,000,000,000,000,000,000.00 per month. This website and my donations to it are racking up good karma for me.
Thanks Jim, God bless you and yours.
