DASHTI QALA, Afghanistan - Several major media organizations pulled out of northern Afghanistan yesterday following the shooting death of a Swedish television correspondent as he slept in a guest house compound in Taloqan.

The BBC, known for its global coverage, pulled out its team, as did the major US broadcast networks. Reporters for Reuters exited, and spokesmen for the Associated Press and the Washington Post indicated that their reporters were planning to leave the region.

They thought this was another Gulf War; they have been told and told it was not like any other war. They have been warned and warned how dangerous Afghanistan is, how unreliable the NA is, yet they pursue the myth that War has rules and they are untouchable.

They aren't, they are targets and they are putting real soldiers in harms way. The next thing will be Fox's Geraldo, who is really good at what he is doing...but this is not a National Geographic story, this is WAR in all its loathsomeness. Please get out of the way.

You mean, The Boston Globe now admits that having guns provides for one's self-defense!! The Globe has fallen off the antigun bandwagon.

My choice for the LIBERAL Media Hypocrisy Award!

I am sorry for the last reporter that was killed but if this had happened in your neighborhood to joe average citizen, the reporter would be standing in front of the courthouse exclaiming that the young man (murderer) was abused as a child - his mother was a drug addict and his father abandoned him when he was a baby. The reporter would then editorialize that prison would not help this young man and maybe the judge will instead sentence him to community service and blah blah blah. Wake up stupid media, evil does exist in this world.

I didn't say they authorized arming their reporters, I only noted that they now believe being armed provides self-protection. They were on the normal anti-gun hysteria, that the only purpose for guns was to kill people.
