WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday sharply criticized the Bush administration for a series of practices it has adopted in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, calling them a "marked departure" from long-held jurisprudence customs.

He is doing no more than the faithful claque from the Sky Is Falling Brigade who persist in attempting to undermine the President with inane posts on FR. In fact, Leahy maybe be posting here since his comments mirror precisely those of the S.I.F. Brigadeers.

Leahy should be taken in for investigation by fbi.
(ofcourse secretely.... to protect his privacy)
To: Asmodeus
Leahy needs to talk less and confirm more judges.

"It's a marked departure from existing practices and raises a wide range of legal and constitutional questions and international implications," Leahy said, also blasting the White House for not consulting with Congress about the changes.Typical CNN reporting. I was watching this early part of hearing and Chertoff took much time and countered each complaint citing history and supreme court statements. Sorry one-sided reporting for those sheeple that will never see or hear the real thing.

He is probably also upset that Ridge contradicted Leaky Leahy's Antrax statementsDo tell. What did Ridge say?

He also maintained that the practices fell within constitutional limits, something some civil libertarians have challenged. And something a number of constitutional scholars have said is perfectly constitutional. More "he said, she said" reporting but CNN as expected only gives one side of the argument from 'some' unnamed 'experts'. So typical.

I say "Leahy, go back to Ben & Jerry's Land". Can anyone tell me why Vermont is full of communists. I've been there only a few times. And it is such a beautiful place, but the leaders coming out of there are nuts.

We are witnessing a master stroke of genius by the dems (intended or not, I haven't decided).
Give the president broad and sweeping powers, give the federal investigative agencies broad and sweeping powers, and when voices of dissent are heard, start the standard GOP AGAINST CIVIL RIGHTS rhetoric. As in : "We have to stop this grab of power by the Executive Branch : blah, blah, blah." The executive branch is trying to by pass the judical branch, Military Tribunals are unconstitutional (the fact that they are for non-citizens accused of specific war crimes is a minor detail the masses do not need to know.)
Unless the GOP leadership sees what is happening, dasshole will trump them once again. I can only hope Bush is still playing with his political cards close to his vest.

They slowly migrated from Boston over the last 30 years. Vermont used to be conservative fo many, many years.

"Further endanger Americans by coddling terrorists and ignoring the fact that we are AT WAR!" Agreed. Let's expand the discussion a bit. How about words or deeds that give aid of comfort to the enemy during wartime? Are there congressional immunities? Federal government immunities? Citizen immunities (free speech issues)?

Morning poll by NPR shows about 70% of Americans approve of military tribunals. Thanks for posting this info. I suspect that the high approval rate indicates a general lack of confidence by Americans in the judicial system, which as we've seen can easily degenerate into a legal circus (e.g., the OJ trial). Swift justice is needed for these terrorists. Can't you imagine the legal maneuvering and technicalities that would be cited by sensational defense attornies using every trick in the book to get their clients off?

Well said. I keep wondering if Hillary isn't actually behind the anthrax letters somehow, some way. If anthrax didn't take the targeted Democ rats down, then I expect the Clintonistas will use some other means to eliminate all competition so the she-witch can have the nod for 2004.

Asmodeus member since September 26th, 2001Rush has spent a large amount of his time documenting the long time anti American history of Leaky Leahy!
Leahy/Kennedy/Clintoon/Dasshole would allow this country to be attacked and re attacked by Islamic terrorists to elect demonicRats in 2002! They are no better than the Mayor of Portand and their left wing Police Chiefs: (Portland Mayor and Police side with Leaky Leahy and Islamic terrorists)

Where are the people of VT?I just realized I should withdraw that question, coming from a state that sends the likes of Barbara Boxer to the US Senate. Good help us all.
