Interesting question you pose. Seems like one would have to say either that smokers are idiots or that smoking is addictive. I believe it's the latter.

#1. I did not use the word idiot.
#2. She earlier switched to low tar cigarettes on the theory they would be "healthier" but got lung cancer anyway. Anyone who believes cigareets are in any respect "healthy" is not too bright.
