I think I have had it with all this Harry Potter hype. I read an article on Drudge yesterday where J.K. Rowlings
was inferred to be another Shakespeare. Someone, please pass me a HUGE barf bag!

(Donald Duck doesn't wear pants, ya know) I always thought that duck was a little odd.
Now that I think about it maybe Harry Potter is a scourge upon our young people. I'm starting to wonder if the talking animals of Disney didn't help create PETA. Well like I said before if a person is so influenced by the fantasy of a movie or book as to alter their life and believe in talking animals or magic then they would have been screwed up anyway.

D&D wasn't aimed at young children and it wasn't used in elementary school. Correct. See, the problem was that D&D was aimed at middle school and high school kids. They were far too old for the evil powers to get a complete grasp on them. Therefor, Harry Potter (Plan B) is aimed at younger children. Satan realized the need to get them when they are younger to get their full support and obedience.

D&D wasn't aimed at young children So sorry, that's not correct. Right on the cover of my 1st edition rules it says "ages 10 to adult".
As far as not being used in elementary school, that could be correct (I don't remember it being used in my school.) On the other hand, it wasn't as popular as Potter is now. As I recall it was confined to a small crowd who were thought of as freaks by their classmates.

a gnome Should I be suspicious of my neighbor and his garden gnomes? Just want to make sure I'm being a "good christian" and protecting my family from such evil beings.

I stand corrected then =) I thought you were speaking of the table tob role-playing game, where you can actually
be an elf, wizard, dwarf, whatever.....
I guess my argument is, if a mind is so feeble that it can't distinguish fantasy from reality, well, they've probably got deeper rooted problems that will only get worse as they get older.

Show your child the Biblical passages condemning the casting of spells and contact with demonsSomebody show me a child who has contacted a real live demon using a Potter book, or any other book for that matter.

So you agree that D&D was not aimed at young children like Potter and it wasn't used in elementary school like Potter. There is no correlation between the two. D&D was primarily a teen and adult phenom. Potter is aimed squarely at 7 to 12. Cartoon Network's prime kids time 2-5 is solid Harry Potter.
Do you think it should be a crime to object to Harry Potter?

I am sorry, but these people are INSANE... this book is just that a book... a fair tale with an unlikely hero facing challenges.. nothing more nothing less... I've read it, unlike MOST here who condemn it, so I know from which I speak. I don't think its the greatest literary work of all time, but it is a pleasent little story. I personally fail to see why it is as big as it is, but I didn't get power rangers or Barney either.
This isn't heather has 2 mommies, or david has 2 daddies... its just a fictional story like thousands of others... All this hubub by a bunch of kooks over peganism or witchcraft etc... lot of hooey. Its a book... nothing more nothing less... I think these people who try to cast it as peganism brainwashing are the rights equivalents of the environmental kooks....

Satan realized the need to get them when they are younger to get their full support and obedience. "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it".

Should I be suspicious of my neighbor and his garden gnomes? Just want to make sure I'm being a "good christian" and protecting my family from such evil beings. You might also notice that Michael Jordan, one of the most recognized faces in the world, came out of retirement to play for the Washington Wizards
When that happened, I stopped letting my kids play basketball.

but these people are INSANEBrilliant. "You don't conform to the proper way of thinking so you must be insane". 1984 comes to life.

Here is the truth:Magic spells don't work......Therein lies the problem with so many arguements, magic is real...it does WORK. If it didn't there would be no reason for the warnings of the Scriptures.
Wiccan is recognized as a religion by the US Government, and as such should be banned from the Public Schools along with its' holidays and BOOKS.

Parents who have been told that Christianity must be kept out of schools due to the ?separation of church and state? are now trying to protect their children from classroom discussions about paganism and the occult. These parents also should be told that their efforts will require them to be the ones legitemating and arguing that paganism and the occult are just as much religions and christianity. No one would consider christianity just a bunch of imaginative fairy tales -- last of all the defenders of it being in schools. Funny how harry potter's defenders do just that.

My 10 year old kid just downloaded (from the UVA electronic library young readers section) and read The Island of Doctor Moreau, by HG Wells, atheist and Fabian Socialist. It's a lot more creepy and violent than Harry Potter. Guess she's going to hell now, eh?

Hmm, well would I want my kid taught by someone that thinks that wizards and spells are just fantasy or one that believes in them? Think I'll pick the former.

Actually, I'd be really friendly to your neighbor. In the books, the gnomes guard treasure. Maybe there is gold in the garden? If you're nice to your neighbor, he just might share...
