Although I do not condemn the Second Amendment, there are other "choices" which do not necessitate the use of a gun.

True. But generally speaking, in full-on you-or-them situations, a gun is the best way to go :) Most of the time, the trigger doesn't even need to be pulled.

I agree life is too short to carry an ugly gun. The one you showed is very good looking. I have a great deal of respect for Glocks I just do not like them personally. I like bue stainless or nickle frames for my old fashioned esthecics.

I have a great deal of respect for the Glocks but I do not like the feel of the trigger thingamajig and I do not like the feel of the grip and I do not shoot them as well as many other pieces.

Enjoyed your post. As a matter of fact I disagree with most of what you wrote but it is always good to get a different perspective.

If everybody always repeats the same advice most people simply accept it without thinking. You give us a few things to consider, and as a former LEO you probably have thought about what you posted.

Anyone can learn to shoot a gun, maybe hit the dark area in the center of a target. How many can face "the enemy" live, even with a gun?

Thanks for the tip. I will check the serial numbers close and do a good visual inspection.

Won't be counting on it for CCW until I put about 1000 rounds through it.

That should shake out any problems.

What I meant was that if you have a gun, you will always have the choice whether or not you use it. If you don't have a gun, you do not have the choice to use it. That being said, since the ONLY time you can use a firearm in self defense is if you truly believe your live is threatened, I would want nothing less at that point. Nor would I recommend any alternative for someone, particularly a woman, where the disparity of force in an unarmed confronation with a man guarantees that she would at least suffer great bodily harm if not death.

After reading the rest of the posts I don't think I'm going to buy the PT145. It seems like the problem is a design flaw and will keep happening until they make a design change.

Might get a 1911 instead or glock.

My two S&W hanguns were bought years ago. It is with these weapons that I protect my home and family. Recent politics count for nothing in this regard. That said, there are equally efficient and reliable alternatives to S&W. Should I ever find myself in the market again I would go Colt.

Nine 00 buck cartridges is sort of like nine 12 shot bursts from a sub-machinegun. Aim it like a rifle with a Hi-Viz or Tru-Glo front sight and you are in real good shape.

Yea, in our state it is easy to get the CCW/concealed pistol permit. Pass the background check and don't bounce the personal check.

Like you I have several pre-deal Smith and wessons. One of them saved my like in RVN. While I have never had an instance where I had to put a finger on the trigger in the USA I have used a handgun in combat and hit my targets. My big thing is practice. To keep up I go to the range at minimum 1hr every week. I do not recommend any specific gun to anyone. I know a quadraplegic who is a good shot with a .22cal revolver and that is what he carries. He can not handle anything larger in caliber and he is comfortable with it. A .22 cal slug through the brain is a better stopper than a .44 cal slug in the wall.

"The first question you need to consider is whether any gun is a good choice for you. Look down deep into your soul: do you know, to the marrow of your bones, that if some bad guy came after you or your family, you'd be able to shoot him or her?"

You can bet your as* or anyone else's I would!! So should any other decent, freedom-loving American!
