SAN DIEGO (AP) -- A Southern California Marine Corps unit trained in special operations led the first wave of a ground campaign designed to root out Osama bin Laden and his terror network in Afghanistan.

Members of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit from Camp Pendleton were the first of about 500 Marines to land in southern Afghanistan Sunday night near the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar. They seized an airstrip and encountered no resistance.

"They seized an airstrip and encountered no resistance."

I fully expect a slew of articles from liberal press sources describing the humiliating and tragic losses we suffered as we once again moved into Kandahar. That, of course, will be followed by much hand wringing and moaning from the overly vocal minority of Freepers demanding the government release the names of all our dead and stop lying.

I spent over two years at Camp Pendleton during my tour of duty. The training is constant. Those Marines know what they are doing and they are a mean bunch! After sitting on a boat for the past two months and knowing what went down on 9/11, they are going to kick some serious butt over there!
