Personally, I am not worried about Bush, Ashcroft and company. It is when they are replaced by someone like Hillary. Then we need to worry. That could happen in four years. The war would still be going on. We will have to watch this closely.

I am unable to associate myself with your thesis. If our freedoms depend on nothing more than the particular party in power, then our freedoms are simply not secure enough. The system should be strong enough to withstand the abuses of any leader who seeks to improperly increase his power. This even applies to leaders who have benign motives. The ends seldom justify the means. When I hear someone tell me to "trust" him because he will not abuse the power he has, it is a worthless assurance.
