Lifetime TV: Television for Women (who like watching indoctrinating crap)
Just a few observations about Lifetime TV | 11/23/01 | StarfireIV

Posted on 11/23/2001 11:42:14 AM PST by StarfireIV

Greetings friends, freepers, and right minded thinkers:
Since moving to the West Coast, I have had the distinct pleasure of having access to TV much more than in previous years. This is thanks to my roomate.
Unfortunately, however I seem to be somewhat dismayed at the content of some channels. Make no mistake, The History Channel feeds my love for the culture of ancient Egypt on a daily basis, and some of what gets presented with regards to US history finds its way to my classroom each and every day.
Lifetime, is another matter entirely. It seems every day this channel is presenting material programmed toward the ridicule, criticism, and outright demonization of the male and corporate culture, either simultaneously in some programs, or consecutively in others. A corucopia of "based on true" stories depicting the ugly side of masculinity, corporate abuse, and feminine victimhood seems to fill the roster of programming of this channel on a daily basis. This happens with a frequency and intensity too pronounced to be simply shrugged off or ignored. I am of the opinion that when presented with such distortions and generalizations on a regular basis, even the most steadfast among us may begin to be affected by such garbage.

Understood. I have really enjoyed the "Junkyard Wars" series on TLC today. I like how improvisational engineering is done by the competing crews.

I don't know what "weep du jour" was on today. I was glued to the Junkyard Wars series on TLC.

I call Lifetime "The Blackeye Channel". Everytime it is on there is some woman on there with a black eye, in a hospital, with her daughter asking "Why oh Why?".

"I had to forbid her from watching lifetime."

I don't disagree with your point, but... you actually tell your wife what tv channels she can watch?? Your wife is a lesser entity than yourself and needs you to make her viewing choices? I just have to ask, what happens if she disobeys the Master?

I share other posters' dislike for "women-good, men-evil and stupid" programming, but in fairness must point out that this summer I saw Lifetime broadcast a movie about the seige at Ruby Ridge that was sympathetic to the Weavers. As far as I could tell, it was factually based and didn't shy away from the Weavers' white-separatist views either. I couldn't believe I was seeing it on Lifetime!

I don't disagree with the presence of "token items" put there for the show of objectivity, however it may be likened to the presence of a small breakwater in Cape Hattaras.

Update: While flicking through. Typical scenario; Psycho threatenes home, couple gets alarm, guy buys gun..... can anyone guess where this is going?

Is Lifetime connected with the very annoying commercial for the "WE" Channel? (The theme music is the "We Are Family" song, but they cut all the words out except for the "we".) If so, they should be banished to the same circle of hell as the creators of the Sunday New York Times commerical, and the writers of the Foxwoods' Casino jingle.

Andrew,
Apologies for the delay. I have witnessed just such the types of scenarios mentioned in the article you linked to. Even a reasonably well done movie featuring Nancy McKeon playing a Schizophrenic portrayed the father of her charachter as an insensitive jerk.
