Seriously, if she's committed to CCW, there are any number of handguns that would serve her well (.38, .357, .44, 9mm). Most important thing is to learn how to use it. The goal is to have it become an extension of yourself. Get to the point where she knows exactly what it will do and not in the least be afraid of it. Get to the point where she can break it down, unload and reload it in complete darkness. And practice, practice, practice. Then, and only then, will it serve its purpose as a true instrument of self defense.
