Bush On Military Tribunals: "I Made Absolutely The Right Decision"
Clymer News Network ^
Posted on 11/19/2001 12:38:31 PM PST by Recovering_Democrat
Some Clymer hack (Terry Moran?) just asked Bush for his response to critics that military tribunals endanger a terrorist's Constitutional rights, G.W. said without wavering that these were "extraordinary times", and that he wasn't going to waver. He reminded the leftist press that Franklin Roosevelt, the icon of the socialist Democrats, did the same thing in WWII.
"So to the critics I say, 'I made absolutely the right decision." End of press briefing. Bush was done.

Why should an elected representative of the people have to answer for anything he does? If you aren't happy with him, vote against him next time. How else would you propose he answer for anything he does that you don't like?
To: Zviadist
There are no enemy uniforms, no "al-Quaeda" membership cards.Nazi infiltrators didn't have those, either, but we used military tribunals to try them during WWII.

Well, there is a difference between criminal activity and mass-murder. Or should we care about the Constitutional rights of people like Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini. My comment was ment to illustrate that the world is a safer place when these kind of people are dead.

Perhaps. But the point of constitutional rights is to help prevent the government from screwing up. While I support our war effort, I could not for the life of me right a 5 page essay detailing the evidence that exists against osama. Consitututional rights forces the government to its burden of proof. It must prove to a jury that a person is actually guilty of what it says he is guilty of.

You are a world class hand-wringer.

How can ANYONE even think about the Constitutional rights of ANY terrorist after 9/11!
I wasn't aware that our Constitution applied to non-Citizens. What am I missing?

These "civil rights" protesters--on the left AND the right aren't interested in the facts. They're probably UPSET the Nazis were given swift and deliberate justice by our military.

I think the same thing everyone else has, it was just discussed on Fox news that, the way the executive order is written, Bush can accuse anyone of being a terrorist, even a Citizen of the United States, and then that person would be subject to one of the 'secret military tribunals.'
To: Zviadist
Cool off. The Constitution only applies to US Citizens. This EO applies only to non citizens.

Also, this was written as a MILITARY order, not an Executive Order.

Strange, Judge Napolitano on Fox News just said that the way it is written, it could apply to an citizen.

These Clymer Hacks should go ask the four dead journalists how they feel about military tribunals.

One thing you geniuses can't quite get through your blockheads: without a trial there is no way of determining who is or is not a terrorist. Excuse me, Einstein, but a tribunal is a court of justice designed to determine guilt or innocence.

I understood him to say that those oppose to it worry that a US Citizen, such as McVeigh, could be deigned a terrorist and then be tried under a tribunal. Gibson reminded him of the outcome of the '93 WTC bombing trial outcome and he had to agree. That sucker got off light.
It seems that those screaming the loudest don't realize (or don't care) that Roosevelt, Kennedy and Lincoln all did this. It didn't last forever and this one won't either.

And you, oh brightest bulb on the Forum, think that Roosevelt, Kennedy and Lincoln were Stalins? Their EOs lasted forever? You're suffering from them now? You think someone will point at finger at you and call you a Nazi?

"If it's good enogh for our service people then it's good enough for TOWELHEADS"!!
While I used to consider Towelhead an appropriate name for Arab Terrorists, I have found I Like "Diaper head" better.
Towels don't normally surround Sh*t
