"From our cultural perspective it is more like paedophilia than rape."

From my cultural perspective, paedophilia IS rape. Your perspective is different?

In this country as well, young women married much younger 200 years ago (middle teen years). In Delaware 30 years ago, 14 year old's could get married without the consent of their parents.

However not at 6 years old to a 50 year old man. That is and always has been a crime in most all non-islamic countries.

I'd say paedophilia is probably worse than rape - but then that's probably like comparing crucifiction with hanging, drawing and quartering.

I'm not sure that Islamic countries would view this any differently than we do - most of them anyway.

There are a ton of examples from medieval Europe where girls of that age were married off for political reasons. The key thing from the pedophilia standpoint is whether the marriage is consumnated, or whether they waited until the girl is "blooded". In Mohammed's case, I have no idea.
