And consider how the excessive noise affects quality of life in the cities they want to cram us into. (Harley owners, this means you.)

Motorcycles can offer sixty or seventy miles per gallon. The lightest of cars far outweighs the biggest bike and has a much larger engine. As far as price comparisons, $7000.00 buys a lot of motorcycle,

I stopped here. The guy's an idiot who knows nothing about motorcycles.

Just for the fun of it, I'd like one of those East German diesel motorcycles. I'd ride back and forth in front of Greenpeace HQ with it. ;)

So much for socialism being environmentally friendly. ;)

Last month I nearly bought a motorcycle. My motive was not the usual mid-life identity crisis. Although I qualify chronologically for that popular personality disorder, my reason for shopping for two wheels instead of four was idealistic rather than psychological. I simply wanted the most environmentally friendly means of transportation for my daily commute.

When you start out on a wrong premise, you end up lost, motorcycles are not green, and hopefully they never will be. My suggestion is to leave the motorcycles to the big boys, move a tad closer to work and buy a bicycle, in this you will find the happy medium you seek. ying-yang

7K only barely gets you into an 883 Sporty. If you want a seat and pegs for the old lady it's going to probably go a bit over 7K. Polution, WGAS. Did the Lord Jesus Christ care that he was poluting the air when he was cooking fish on the beach? I really don't think so.

As a Harley owner I'll speak for myself here and simply tell you that you can bite me.

My bike makes a hell of a lot less noise than a tractor trailer or dump truck going down the road and for that matter a lot less than these punks who have car stereos that shake house windows as they go by.

Motorcycles: Green or Obscene?

As hard as it is to believe, motorcycles generate more pollution per mile than the largest SUVs on the road.

Only if they are Harleys and wanabe Harleys, the noisy nuisances!

The noise pollution is greater than the perceived air quality damage, and we can breathe our way through that.

I would take this with a grain of salt. Motorcycle manufacturers have to submit their products to federal emissions testing just like autos. Since my Honda Shadow gets over 50pmg, even if it is allowed a little more hydrocarbons than an SUV(and I see no actual figures that say that it does), it still gets over twice the miles per gallon which means that the production of the gasoline it uses produces less pollution than the gas that SUV uses and it probably produces less net pollution than the SUV.

Finally, this guys rides a bicycle to work! How can you believe anything hs says? ;-)

I'm not sure whther to believe this or not either, but he does quote a source and give his name. Don't get me wrong: I have nothing against motorcylces, I just knew us Freepers would get a chuckle or two out of this article!

"In fact, motorcycles produce more harmful emissions than driving a car, or even a large SUV."

Yeah, and the pope ain't Catholic!

Motorcycles ride under different regulations than cars. I suspect the anti-pollution equipment required for cars, even scaled down to the size of a motorcycle engine, would make motorcycles quite different vehicles than they are now.

The selfish punks disturbing my peace could say the same about their subwoofers. I don't see any benefit in a two-block advance warning of their arrival, either.

I don't even have any mufflers on mine. Just straight pipes so you can hear me coming and going.
