So far as I can see it, nobody did a better job of debunking the conspiracy theories than the Islamists themselves. Within hours of the attacks, they were:
- Calling to congratulate each other.
- Telling America to learn its lesson.
- Dancing in the streets and passing out candy.
- Spinning "Jewish" conspiracies.
- Claiming they didn't do it, but they approved.
- Gathering up their clan to leave the United States.
- Threatening U.S. Allies not to get involved.
- Demanding that we show them proof (as a means to destroy intelligence sources).
- Care to continue the list?

Hmmm . . . I wonder if GWB is also trashing Mel Gibson, who starred in a recent decent movie called (what else ) "Conspiracy Theory" !!!

"Conspiracy theorists provide a valuable service to all democratic societies, and I think we should regard
any attempt to silence these individuals -- directly or indirectly -- as
a direct assault on democracy."
BUMP!!

Considering the rich vein of material they could have mined, that movie sucked out loud!!
Mostly, I have a problem with that Julia chick!

Does this author always take things out of context like this?

FEMA recently felt obliged to discredit what it called "rumors" on the internet
Isn't it nice to have a Ministry of Truth? I feel much safer now.

In a time of war it can be dangerous to military operations and to US troops for the government to reveal information, so it restricts information. Once this happens "the people" become highly vulnerable to both deliberate and innocent misinformation. Misinformation gets passed on and the cottage industry of conspiracy theorists becomes the "best information" available. In wartime the opposition exploits these conspiracy theories and turns the people against the government.
Message to Americans: Speak factually about what you KNOW to be true. Label your opinions as OPINION. When you do not know for certain, say so. Accuracy matters. Words can have consequences. Support the war with TRUTH.

Hope they are monitering
The Independant Media Center (the clearing house for information on the riots in Seattle, Calgary and Genoa). Every conspiracy theory imaginable has been posted there. As well as threats that Bin Ladin has a nuclear device already in America which will be set off by sleeper agents via cell phone should OBL be killed or captured.
