USO Canteen Freeper Style 11-16-01

USO Canteen Freeper Style

War has come to our shores. It was committed on American soil.  We have been able to live in Freedom only because of those who have fought in the past wars giving life, limb and all the sacrifices for us to live in Freedom and go about our day without fear.

On September 11, 2001, that comfort, that feeling of living in a land that would not be attacked ended.

William T. Sherman said it succinctly, "War is hell."

The day has come for this Nation and its people to understand that there is a risk in losing its freedom, and in reality there always has been. We have ONLY stayed free because of the sacrifices of our military, our warriors.

This is about saving the future of America. Aristotle said, "We make war that we may live in peace."

We are seeing the American Flag flying at homes now more than ever in my lifetime. We are seeing the American Flag flying on vehicles and people wearing Flag pins and small Flags on their clothes. America is united in the cause for Freedom and for our country to WIN against the evil that came upon our land to kill and hurt us. To change our way of life and to destroy America which is US, you and me. To take away our precious Freedom.

This is the Freeper version of the USO Canteen. Where soldiers could come and feel a small part of being at home. It is a place where you that have family in the military can post a thought to a loved one that might be able to read it far away from home. A place where we that support our military can help support them, post to them, fun graphics showing the price in America and our troops. Poems, quotes, cartoons, or articles of how America is behind our troops.

Those in our military are our Nation's warriors. Let us join hands, fly our Flag and let the world know how important our warriors are to us....And that our MILITARY, our Warriors, are America's TRUE HEROS!

"No Marine was ever honored for what they received. Honor was the reward for what they gave." (Anonymous) CHIEF gave his all in many ways. He touched our lives and his friendship meant so much to all of us. He will live in our hearts forever, and his friendship will always be a bright and shining memory in our hearts and souls.

"I can get 'seasick'"

My Flotillia Commander in the Coast Guard Auxiliary showed me some wristbands with magnets that go over your veins that prevent getting seasick. I AM going to need those when I'm on boat patrols and not standing radio watches on the base. LOL

It Is the Soldier

It is the soldier, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,
who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the soldier,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
who allows the protester to burn the flag.

A protest raged on a courthouse lawn,
Round a makeshift stage they charged on,
Fifteen hundred or more they say,
Had come to burn a Flag that day.

A boy held up the folded Flag,
Cursed it, and called it a dirty rag.
An OLD MAN pushed through the angry crowd,
With a rusty shotgun shouldered proud.

His uniform jacket was old and tight,
He had polished each button, shiny and bright.
He crossed that stage with a soldier's grace,
Until he and the boy stood face to face.

"FREEDOM OF SPEECH," the OLD MAN said,
So you can stand on this courthouse lawn,
And talk us down from dusk to dawn,

But before any Flag gets burned today,
This OLD MAN IS GOING TO HAVE HIS SAY!

My father died on a foreign shore,
In a war they said would end all war.
But Tommy and I wasn't even full grown,
Before we fought in a war of our own.
And Tommy died on Iwo Jima's beach,
In the shadow of a hill he couldn't quite reach
Where five good men raised this Flag so high,
That the WHOLE DAMN WORLD COULD SEE IT FLY.
I got this bum leg that I still drag,
Fighting for this same old Flag.

Now there's but one shot in this old gun,
So now it's time to decide which one,
Which one of you will follow our lead,
To stand and die for what you believe?
For as sure as there is a rising sun,
You'll burn in Hell 'fore this Flag burns, son.

Now this riot never came to pass.
The crowd got quiet and that can of gas,
Got set aside as they walked away
To talk about what they had heard this day.
And the boy who had called it a "dirty rag,"
Handed the OLD SOLDIER the folded Flag.

So the battle of the Flag this day was won
By a tired OLD SOLDIER with a rusty gun,
Who for one last time, had to show to some,
THIS FLAG MAY FADE, BUT THESE COLORS DON'T RUN.

I don't know how to tell you this,,,,, I've never eaten grits, let alone prepared them. I am a 5th Generation Yankee. My family's been in Iowa a long time. The best I can do is rustle up a bowl of Cream of Wheat,,, isn't that sort of like grits?

"I too loved SOS, it makes my mouth water just thinking about...no really, I'm not joking."

LOL, you know it took me almost 3 years after I got out to eat eggs again.
That green tint from those at sea powdered eggs were just too much.
BTW the USO Canteen thread changes everyday, so please come by often!

Joke:

A Blind Man:

A blind man is sitting on a park bench. A Rabbi sits down beside him and starts to eat some matzos (a flat thin rough surfaced unleavened bread eaten during the Passover).

He gives a piece to the blind man. A couple of minutes later, the blind man says "Who wrote this junk?"

First, I want to thank you for serving this country and for helping to keep me living in a free land. YOU were a part of why America has stayed non communist and why we can be free and safe right up to 9-11, and I am so very proud of you. Others now are fighting for our safety and I am proud of them too.

You are a Hero, and should be respected and appreciated for what you did.We cannot take away the cruelty of those that did not welcome you home, and as far as I am concerned those that treated our Vietnam Vets so cruely are UNAmerican and I want nothing to do with them,as my anger toward them is so great and I have no respect for those people.

Part of the reason for the USO Canteen FReeper Style( and please read what is written in the introduction it is from my heart and Billie's too) is that we here at the Canteen have a place here to Welcome Home our Vets and to show them how very much we know what our freedom cost and the price that has been paid and it is because of them and YOU.

It is also a place for showing support for our troops now and to share with others and family members of those serving. You are most welcome here and a an important part of the Canteen and why it is here.

Your post was so touching and I know what you were saying in words and between the spaces and dots and commas.

WELCOME HOME my friend. We are your FReeper family and friends and are so glad to see you here.

Cream of Wheat is to Grits is like Snot is to Boogers, if I may be so crude. Same stuff, different blend and presentation - but essentially the same corn product.

Major props to you for NEVER subjecting your family to this abomination of food stuffs. ;-)

Please don't just get off and watch. This Canteen is for you, for others like you, for those of us who love our military. Thank you for fighting in Viet Nam for us, timy. Thank you for your service. Please come back and just enjoy the people here who come for fun and to vent or whatever else. We're here every day - the main thread stays the same, but the posts are always new and fun and we never know what direction they'll take - what will end up being the "theme". Today we've had the Mexican food theme, with margaritas flowing all afternoon! Want one?

Hey! Please stick around for awhile. I would guess that you and me are about the same 'vintage'. (The older we get, the better we get,,,,, right?). I need someone to help me keep these kids in line. lodwick trys to help me,, but he keeps spewing Gin all over his keyboard,, the keyboard gets sticky,,, and he's out of commission until a new one is installed.

Thanks so much for your service to our country. (And if you think Cream of Wheat is to Grits like snot is to boggers,,,, just keep it to yourself,,,okay?)
