Yep, time to put the cold war behind us. The Russians are facing over a bilion Chinese to their east and over a billion Muslims to their south. That is their basic geopolitical fact of life. In contrast, there is no inherent geopolitical reason why Russia and America shouldn't be friends rather than enemies. They need us more than we need them, but they are useful to our own national interests to have on our side. The conflict caused by crackpot communism over the past century was only an aberation, and was very damaging to Russia's long-term national interests.
