I'm about as strict a Constitutionalist as you're likely to find. But we MUST do something about radical Islam before it destroys this country. I propose a constitutional amendment that removes many of the rights in the Bill of Rights FOR FOLLOWERS OF ISLAM ONLY
I'd counter with Ben Franklin's immortal words, "Those who are willing to trade civil liberties for temporary security, deserve neither."
Are we going to start throwing up road blocks every time we're attacked or threatened? Where does it stop? At some point in time, you may find that you could be a member of a group the government decides to target.
We do need to make some sacrifices, but they have to be weighed against the long-term effects that could result from them.

I'd counter with Ben Franklin's immortal words, "Those who are willing to trade civil liberties for temporary security, deserve neither." I've quoted Mr. Franklin hundreds of times in the last several years myself. And I still agree.

Again, that's why I suggest SPECIFICALLY targeting radical Islamists rather than ALL Americans, as the so-called "Patriot" act and Bush's military trials executive order do. THEY can and probably will be used against good Americans - my suggestion cannot.

I'd counter with Ben Franklin's immortal words, "Those who are willing to trade civil liberties for temporary security, deserve neither." And I would counter that with one word: context.<br. Having read much of Franklins written works, I have a strong suspicion that, faced with Islam, he would qualify that statement.
