Two years ago, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, either through mismanagement or inability to detain at the proper time, failed to deport between 50,000 to 60,000 aliens who had been convicted of serious felonies, Smith said.

This is inexcusable. What are they thinking about in Washington? Thanks for the Tancredo bump on the other thread.

Time to change the oil in Washington!!

One quarter of inmates in federal prisons in the United States are foreign-born.

That's the first time I've seen that statistic. I wonder how the pro-immigration people will try to discredit this article?

Immigrants who don't have a high school education end up over their lifetime taking far more in government benefits than they pay in taxes.

That one is a no-brainer, probably true of native born Americans too.

Great idea? Who is going to "round them up" Where do you "store them?" Who is going to "watch" them? Who is going to feed them, clothe them, where are there enough sanitary facilities? WHO gets rounded up? Where is the "cut-off?" Do we round up all Arabs? -Afghans aren't Arabs. Do we round up all Muslims? Where do we put 8 million people? (In the U.S.)Do we round up all first generation immigrants? Second generation? What generation were YOUR ancestors? Gee, I can just predict your answer. . . I'm an American , they aren't! Are you Irish, Italian, Eastern European? Sounds just a little like the Anti-immigration League of the last century. I know we'll give them all a test IN ENGLISH, if they can't pass it, back they go! Wow, I bet that has never been thought of before.

Here in North Carolina, the Council of Conservative Citizens - the group which has been the lead group protesting illegal immigration for several years now - right after 9/11 switched the emphasis of its frequent anti-immigration protests from job loss to national security.

Oh come now. Our open border and immigration free for all, is good for us. Who would mow our lawns? And out of these millions of criminal illegal aliens, how many could possibly be terrorist? 3,000, 10,000? Its really not that many.

And besides, allowing millions of uneducated people into our country is a good thing and it will help our standard of living.

And don't forget the family reunification act, which allows the immigrants to bring their families here to collect social security, medicade and all those other freepies that WE all worked so hard to fund.
