Gimlet, I agree with your comment. I know nothing of Zinn, but McGovern was a brave man who fought for his country and I respect him to this day for that.

Here, here. Bad ideas must be fought with better ideas. That is why Mcgovern lost. It is plain stupid to attack people as traitors when we disagree with them. Let's reserve those words for people like the anthrax killers - IF - they turn out to be Americans. It makes me mad to see so many patriotic Americans who risked everything attacked as traitors because they have different and wrong-headed ideas. How does THAT defend out Constitution.
