Seems to me that Lufthansa was doing this at Logan as far back as 1996. A big white xray machine positioned immediately before the ticket counter.

The idea is so obvious I'm sure someone was already doing it. (If they were doing it at Logan that'd be the rare time anyone at that airport was on the job)
