There are multiple reasons to beleive it was NOT a SAM. SAM leaves a very prominant stream of rocket booster smoke leading from launch point on ground to impact point on A/C. It's called the "flaming datum." Makes it very easy to shoot at launcher in battlefield scenario.
Ever see one launched? Think Shuttle but smaller. Would be visable for miles. Also, is VERY loud when launched. That would be reported as well. It was not.
Last thing we need here are irresponsible posts.
MindBender, chill out. I (and others in Cubicleland) appreciate the discussion going on. I haven't seen anything "irresponsible". Speculation is normal. It's no different than what they're doing at CNN, Fox, etc. If you're really bugged by this, the best thing to do is leave the thread.
BTW, hope you're still feeling good (no ill effects of your non-Cipro stance)? ;-)
SAM leaves a very prominant stream of rocket booster smoke leading from launch point on ground to impact point on A/C.The big ones certainly do. However, I saw a TV story years ago where they filmed a Muj unit shooting down a Russian military jet with a Stinger. The TV report showed the whole thing from launch to impact. It didn't make all that much smoke or noise. And it didn't cause the Russian jet to explode all at once either. (Of course, we're talking about a civilian airliner here.)
