You are correct; the plane took off toward the NW, banked left, and was heading SE when the trouble startedNW was not on the flight path.

Yeah, earlier FNC said that parts fell off while it was still over Jamaica Bay as it headed toward the spit of land that is Rockaway. They showed an NYPD launch standing by the debris with a bouy out, waiting for recovery personnel.

Commercial aircraft do not fly directly to destinations. When they leave a major airport, they fly a SID, a Standard Instrument Departure.
SIDs are canned routings that vector them a predetermined series of radio navigational fixes in order to avoid other aircraft, noise abatement, a/c from other airports, etc. They use another set called STARs, Standard Terminal Arrival Routes when landing.
For example, one SID from ISP (Islip, Long Island, NY) for aircraft going to Florida takes you about half way to NYC, then back towards Montalk Point (far Eastern end of Long Island before turning southwest to Florida, climbing the entire time.
SIDs change by runway in use, other factors. The AA crash location is not a factor in determining destiation and to say it was headed toward UN because of where it crashed is wild speculation.

PS...We'll probably never know what happened to this flight. It's the economy at stake. So....Lie.

How could you say such things. Planes never crash without terrorism being involved. There are no pilot error or mechanical failure crashes. Those are just stories the Government makes up to lie to us. It's all Osama Bin Rivero!
To: Revolting cat!
LOL! (Is it allowed in a crowd?)

Sometimes things just are what they are; no terrorism here. What ever floats your boat. To each their own.
It all comes back to the facts and the opinions.
Would the Gov. actually lie to save the economy? Please, fly U.S. Air. Do it for your country.
Nothing to see here....move along......

I wouldn't be so cynical. It was just reported that when flight 587 took off the pilot in the plane behind noted that smoke poured out of one of the engines during take off. All signs point to that this crash was due to mechanical failure.

Remember from the VH1 concert for NYC?
New York Firefighter Michael Moran saying, ""My brother John was a chief in SOC," Moran, 37, said. "On behalf of my brother John and 12 members of Ladder 3 that we lost, Osama Bin Laden, you can kiss my royal Irish ---! "And I live in Rockaway Beach. This is my face," Moran said, removing his dress blue FDNY hat. As Moran left the stage, the audience began cheering and chanting, "U.S.A.! U.S.A!"

Um...OK. So are you saying that we should have a completely pilotless system then? Or that there are easier ways to implement an "override" than being able to control the plane from the ground. F-16s, armed flight crews, isolating the flight deck, etc. If so, I agree.
My argument is that implementing a ground based override system is needlessly complex and introduces far more potential problems than it purports to solve.

Ill wait for the black box, and I wouldn't fly in a plane. The economy is too important right now for the airlines to admit another hit.
I'll spend money at a mall or something.
To: Tennessee_Bob
Yep, turbine failure... due to sabotage.
Or a Stinger missile.
I just looked at a New York City map and this American A-300 Air Bus went down very fast on the direct egress flight route from JFK.
The F.B.I., F.A.A., N.T.S.B., and the White House can deny all they want, but this was too coincidental to be anything BUT a terrorist attack. It's Veteran's Day. it's an American flight, it's from JFK, it's in New York, an it crashed in Mike Moran's neighborhood.
Looks to me that Usama just kissed Mike Moran's a$$.
The government will cover it up to keep the airlines in business, just like they did Flight 800.

Come on. Be serious. Or at least wait for some evidence.
