>A useless exercise.

A reasonable person would think so.

But in the last ten years or so, since when has anything in public life been "reasonable?" What if there is more going on than meets the eye?

Consider what happened just a few days ago -- the President of the United States gave a speech, and only one broadcast network covered it.

Numerous democRAT congress-scum have been quoted as saying that "our" president was never elected...

Bush has NATO AWACS in the air over the east coast rather than US AWACS...

Someone is sending anthrax to politicians and the government now has unprecedented "law" enforcement powers to track down "terrorists."

I've said this before in other threads, but I'm becoming more and more convinced that it may be true: There may be some kind of weird, simmering civil war going on in the US, between politicians and power groups who support "the system" which put Bush in office, and politicians and power groups who support the liberals who believe Bush and the Supreme Court "abused" the system.

I don't know what such a low level civil war would look like, but IMHO it strikes me a very reasonable to believe that it would look like what we are seeing: Fragmentation within the media -- with some blocs simply refusing to carry the other's messages. Fragmentation within the military, with some commands simply refusing to put out 100% effort in critical situations. Fragmentation in the business world, with some coalitions getting federal bailouts and assistance and others allowed to get sucked under.

If this is true, there are at least a couple of predictions that may be drawn from the premise. 1) The "rebel" media fragments will continue to push this message that our president is not legitimate, and will step up the rhetoric; 2) We will see greater disarray in the business world as rebel fragments get pushed to bankruptcy and others get Federal bailouts; 3) We will see more bizarre incidents such as we saw at O'Hare airport, where obvious "terrorists" get strangely lenient treatment (some "terrorists" will have contacts within the fragments); 4) We will see the intensity of the conflict escalate (domestically, I mean) until we have visible violent conflicts in the street or until some accomodation is achieved behind the scenes and the "war" on terrorism will "magically" seem to solve itself and fade away.

Time will tell. My predictions are that no accomodation will be reached and America will wide-spread biochem warefare and more than three nuclear explosions.

Then, eventually, a "streamlined" America will emerge built around libertarian & corporate "ideals." Time will tell.
