Thanks for posting the letters. My first impression when I saw them a couple of weeks ago and which holds today was how deliberate the writing was.

All capitals indicate to me a child's writing, or a writing of a foreigner whose native language does not use the Latin alphabet, or a writing of someone who thinks that by using all capitals he makes the work of a handwriting expert more difficult. (On the last one I think he'd be correct.)

The only problems with my theory of deliberateness are the corrections in the three 'T's and the 'A'. Also, note how strange the 'G' and the 'R' look. These are interesting letters, unlike the more square letters like 'T' or 'A' and they should tell us something about the school of handwriting. They are written differently in different European cultures. Why no mention of that?

I still think that the date itself may be a red herring!

Looking at the "letters" that you posted, it is strange that the FBI didn't make particular notice of the way the g's are made in all three letters. That, for me, says that they were written by a single individual and that there is a limited number of individuals who do a g like that.

This looks like it was written with the left hand, but not necessarily by a lefthander.

The same person did NOT write all of those letters. How can they say that? They're totally different in the amount of pressure one used to write to the printing of the letters and numbers. What fool is doing this "profile"?

The "W"'s and "M"'s are odd. Pointy.

THANK YOU for presenting the text of these letters again! I cannot (can not) BELIEVE anyone is taking this FBI snowjob seriously! They can employ psychic powers to dredge all kinds of personality characteristics from these letters like the Oracle of Delphi,(all suggesting a Republican nutcase from Montana is behind it all) but they can find "no connection" (MSNBC) to the high-jackers?!?!? Death to Israel! Death to America! Allah is Great! They are not this stupid. They are LYING to us. The question is "WHY?"

Four things struck my attention as I looked over the letters (thanks for posting the copies).

1) Who writes the word "Building" on a separate address line and without abbreviating it? A foreigner who mistakenly thinks the word "Building" is important on an address line. Americans would write "Bl" or "Bldg" on the same line, if necessary squeezed on at the very end, not going to a second line.

2) Who puts a period after "Ave" (or "St" or "Rd")?? I don't.

3) I have a degree in foreign languages and the English used in the letters sounds to me like a foreigner trying to think in English. The person "knows" the meaning of the words, but doesn't realize how stilted the English sounds to a native English speaker. For language students, it's often a laborious process trying to translate simple concepts into a language not his own. The non-native speaker might think "You die now" expresses the thought such as "You're going to die" or "Die, you suckers" or "You're going to die ha ha", which may have been what he was thinking as he wrote "You die now".

4) A computer user who does inputting as part of his job would be used to writing the date with six digits. I have to input the date this way in my job, and it's therefore second nature to write six digit dates on checks, etc.

Another thought that the writer is a non-native English speaker/foreigner: he uses the phrase "Can Not" instead of "can't". (One analysis I read made a big deal out of that, saying it was an attempt by an American native English speaker to sound like a foreigner.) To my ear, it sounds like the person wants to make sure the message screams out loud and clear, so they write the full word "Not" to emphasize this, and this makes them comfortable in getting their message across. Does this make sense? They know enough English to get their thought across, but they're not comfortable in using the abbreviated word "can't".

I'm reading the Brokaw letter and this is what's resonating in my head. "This is next. Take Penacilan now." I hear the person saying, Now we've gone on to Round Two. You better take your meds now, I'm warning you.

"Death to America. Death to Israel. Allah is Great." I remember the chants on TV of the protesters in front of the American embassy shouting, "Marg bar Amrika, Marg bar Israel. Allahu akbar."

I hear a foreigner trying to think in English.

Hey, it could be a good attempt at a Red Herring.
