I'm thinking older guy as well. Retirement age perhaps. Someone that worked for a lab perhaps working on gov't chemical weapons design, was injured or poisoned in the line of work, got shafted on a settlement or maybe was replaced by a foreign worker. Took some of his experiment home and saved it to use against what he perceives as the enemy, foreigners. Angry engineers, programmers etc. who were fired or witnessed a fellow employees project get chosen over theirs are prone to act in this manner, either destroying their project, boobytrapping it or taking it with them. Might explain the genetic uniqueness of the strain & the reported 1950's vintage. FBI ought to start checking employee records from gov't labs since 1960's looking for someone fitting the profile. The likelyhood of a "younger" person obtaining such knowledge in todays science is slimmer than in the past. Furthermore, no one, neighbors etc. would suspect a disabled person as being behind such an attack, perfect cover like the 70 year old grandmothers selling crack cocaine.

My profile guess:
White male over the age of 60
Widowed or Divorced, no children or relatives or alienated his relatives, has only one or two people he speaks to
Partially disabled
Ex-government employee or subcontracted gov't employee
Top Secret clearance at one time
College educated
Lives in the Trenton Area
Buys stamped envelopes because he can't ever find a stamp when he needs one, frustrated by the interm "Letter" stamps without denominations, can't keep up with the changes in postage.
Doesn't like kids, visitors or phone calls.
Reads & watches TV. No Computer
Has a cat, hates dogs
Shops at thrift stores and budget grocery stores
Unkempt appearance, abrupt in conversation, scrooge like
People avoid him and he likes it that way
Reveling in the fact that he hasn't been caught yet and probably going about his business in a much better mood
Possible manic depressive
Hates doctors
Uses public transportation
Not a registered voter
