Our media will go beserk (if not already). We can't have US victories. We will have to report that and not civilian casualties. Oh the horror.

It looks like Rumsfeld nailed it.
This thing could be over in months...

It is now being reported by Fox News... This city is being compared with DIEN BIEN PHU!!!! on Fox because of its Strategic similiarity to that area.... so be on ALERT FOLKS... this is now OBVIOUSLY a VERY FLUID situation we have here folks!!! this could get INTERESTING!!!

Good evening. I'm Peter Jennings and this is ABC news. More civilians casualties today as US-supported Northern Alliance gunmen supposedly entered Mazar-E-Sharif today. The Taliban ambassador to Pakistan has said that 355 civilians, mostly woman and children were killed in heavy fighting. Six puppies were also reported killed. The Pentagon, no suprise here, disputed these figures.

You know...What the heck is MAZAR-E-SHARIF anyway.

Dien BIen Phu????????????
Why is that comparison being made? IS the terrain similar....i.e. French in a valley, Minh in the hills.....with arty......
Not understanding this comparison. THe French had no air superiority to exploit to resupply Dien Bien Phu, and hence, it was overrun.
I don't think that is the case here. Please clarify, if possible.
Thanks

I wouldn't be so confident. This has the look of "strategic Taliban withdrawl" all over it. I don't think the NA could beat the girl scouts in a real battle.
Again, I hope I'm wrong, but don't be surprised when they run in panic at the first sign of a counterattack.

I wonder how much resistance they encountered? Form the sound of it, the Taliban just abandoned the city and they simply walked in.

That is basically what they are saying.. the TERRAIN is similiar to DIEN BIEN PHU... with a city(Mazar-e-Sharif) in a valley that is surrounded by Mountains...
