"I am still unsure about what Humpty Dumpty represented to me on that day, because I do not subscribe to -- and I even resent -- the theory that America's arrogance, even indirectly, led to the attacks. It just seemed as though the world were falling down, like Humpty Dumpty."

When I was taking German--years ago--in high school, our teacher pointed out that this famous line of Kennedy's actually translated as "I am a jelly doughnut", and that the proper translation for "I am a citizen of Berlin" would have been "Ich bin Berliner." Style over substance, a la WJC.
Does anybody else here have any German background, that could verify the translation?
Unless she took the subway to Grand Central for some reason--but then she wouldn't have seen all those hordes of screaming people rushing OUT, she would have been part of the crowd.
I looked high and low for a Chattaqua reference for New York state and figured my Google screwed up.
There is however some dispute about her father living in Chappaqua.......some think he might be long dead!
In NYC it is twenty blocks to the mile running North and South so Grand Central is at 42nd Street and Union Square is at 14th Street. That makes it about a mile and a half.
Once you get south of Union Sqare the distances between blocks is much less, but WTC is well below where First Street is. I tried to figure out the distance using Mapquest, it was 2.5 miles from Union Square to WTC.
Route from WTC to Union Square
It looks to be a few more than twelve blocks - maybe she was counting the ones in her head?
Please dear GOD don't let their be CLONES of this evilseed!
I got a freebie 24-hours off on a Monday once. Had nothing to do and no one to do it with so I walked from Gov's Island Ferry to Times Square, it took me from about 9am until dinner time (I wasn't in any big hurry along the way, shopping and stuff)--but was quite a haul.
There is another story where she said she was in Battery Park at the time of the collapse (I know exactly where that is!).
She is not as slick as mom and dad. She better learn to become a better liar or just start telling the truth. Considering the environment in which she was raised, the latter coming to pass is probably remote.
Today I read a letter to The Washington Times written by fellow-FReeper Jimmy Valentine apropos of Bill Clinton's speech at Georgetown University earlier this week. It included a stanza from Scott's "Lay of the Last Minstrel", that I have decided, -with Jimmy Valentine's acquiescence, of course, to transcribe in full:
"Breathes there the man, with soul so dead,
Who never to himself hath said,
This is my own, my native land!
Whose heart hath ne'er within him burn'd,
As home his footsteps he hath turn'd,
From wandering on a foreign strand!
If such there breathe, go, mark him well:
For him no Minstrel raptures swell;
High though his titles, proud his name,
Boundless his wealth as wish can claim;
Despite those titles, power, and pelf,
The wretch, concentred all in self,
Living, shall forfeit fair renown,
And, doubly dying, shall go down
To the vile dust, from whence he sprung,
Unwept, unhonor'd, and unsung."
Jimmy Valentine ended his letter with the following line:
It is submitted that this describes both Bill Clinton's legacy and his epitaph!
