This rings completely true to me.

The United Way has supported the Legal Aid Society before, so the fact that a fund of the United Way was sending money Legal Aid's way should be completely unshocking.

Further, the Legal Aid Society is a favorite of everyone's favorite, Ramsey Clark. Many of the senior attorneys at Legal Aid came from Clark's practice, and many of the lawyers, employed by the various umbrella groups that Clark is a mouthpiece for, come from the Legal Aid Society. They are kindred spirits, and work closely together.

Ramsey Clark's group has long taken charitable donations under the guise of high-minded sounding ideals (such as legal aid for the poor, or funding alternative sources of media for the underprivileged) and used them for criminal defense of terrorists and subversives (such as Mumia) or for distributing communist propaganda and instruction to prisoners in jail.

Last year, for example, hundreds of thousands IIRC flowed from the Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund to the coffers of groups directly controlled by the International Action Center (another Clark group). This money went, in part, to pay for the preparations for the protest against our war on September 29th (as well as the activities I described above).

Not only would I not doubt that Legal Aid got money from the September 11th Fund, I would be surprised if they didn't.

(Clark has also been involved with defending some of Bin Laden's men before, btw).
