With regards to the letter to the editor in Fresno, from a family living in Baladullah, it sounds like old rehtoric or a stock answer ( like the democrats use, you know, "lets just all take a deep breath"),

This came from an article about another compound in Vriginia.

Va. Muslim Enclave Seen as Threat -- or Threatened © 2001 The Washington Post Company

Residents of the Muslim community in Red House say they have never heard of Al-Fuqra and know Pierre as a peaceful man. The government's allegations, they say, threaten to destroy a way of life for the 20 families who moved to the isolated outpost to escape the "decadence of the city." Since Pierre's arrest, people driving by have screamed obscenities and pointed guns at their homes.

But during the late 1980s and early 1990s, law enforcement officials began linking Al-Fuqra to arsons and bombings in the United States and Canada. Federal authorities say its members target Jews, Hindus and other Muslims. A 1993 report by the Anti-Defamation League counted Al-Fuqra among a "shadowy group of fanatical religious extremists."
