Pentagon to send 4th carrier to Afghanistan

The Pentagon is set to dispatch a fourth aircraft carrier battle group to waters near Afghanistan, and the ships could depart for the region as early as this weekend, defense officials said yesterday.

The battle group, led by the San Diego-based carrier USS Stennis, is being dispatched to provide additional aerial firepower, officials said in an interview.

A captioned photo of the Stenis returning to San Diego yesterday from an accelerated training excercise for early deployment was in the San Diego Union Tribune today. It didn't appear in the online addition.

And evry year, the supposedly strategic experts want to cut down on carriers,

"We can do it with 10, how'bout with 9 aircraft carriers"
