Actually, I hear there are places in Sibera where the Wooly Mamoths were still alive, about 4K years ago....that would have been cool to see...

You may be referring to the pygmy mammoths found on an island off the coast of Greenland. They were dated to 4k years ago. All the other species of mammoths (Columbian, Imperial, et al), along with nearly every other land animal over 45 kg in mass, disappeared 11k years ago. The latter event is one of the great mysteries of paleontology.
