What makes me uncomfortable about this bill is that, although it's to prevent voter fraud, it's one step closer to a national identity card. And if the state requires this card to vote, who is going to bear the cost? The state or the individual voter? Will this be litigated as a form of poll tax?
Although I should be enthused about this bill because it helps voter fraud, it's one more computerized list I'm going on (complete with personal information) and I don't like that idea. I know that if this becomes a requirement to vote in Wisconsin, the GOP has lost two votes: my vote and my husbands, because we will not get voter ID cards to vote.
Agreed.
And are you planning to forego your social secruity check because you don't like having a SS card? do you have a Passport? How about credit cards? Are you in the phone book? Do you ever shop at Sam's club?
Excuse me, but I think you offer a very poor reason for giving up your vote. I hope you rethink your opposition. Our Freedom is too precious to lose over a card.
Since I've done both in this state, I can tell you that it is, by far, easier to vote without being challenged for proper ID than it is to buy a gun. It seems that once your name is on the list of registered voters for your polling place, the little old ladies are utterly satisfied to have you simply tell them who you are, what district you're in, and your address. Some of the MOST gullable people in our society are manning the polls (not directed at those of you who are simply elderly - big difference).
Shoot, they provided meals on Election Day last year in some locations either before or after you voted.
With the added problem of allowing people to register at the polls, lack of a voter card means no controls whatsoever. I'm not going to throw away the system of government that my ancestors fought for (4 Revolutionary War veterans) over a card!
If voter fraud is stopped, voter participation will fall to less than 10%.Then we can sell it to the DemonRATs, who like the idea of low voter turnout, while making them forget that the 10% that will turn out actually care.
Sorry--I think it's intrusive. And I don't live in any other state--that's like saying, "all the other kids do it." I live in Wisconsin, and I don't like this law. It's a typical politician's knee-jerk reaction to a highly publicized event without thinking too very deeply about it.
Our decision not to vote if a voter ID card is required is not a decision we made on a whim. My husband and I discussed this indepth, and if this passes and is signed into law, we will not be getting voter ID cards. We don't think of it as forfeiting a right, but refusing to exercise a right over an overburdensome government.
And who is going to be paying for these voter ID cards? And who is going to be paying for the administration of the voter ID cards? I suspect very deeply that the state will have to develop a whole new bureacracy to manage this, plus more of a bureacracy on a county and municipal level. No thanks. And last time I looked, "the state" translates into "money out of my pocket." This state has had its hands deep in my pockets for many a year--they don't need to be soaking me for any more, thank you very much.
We also need to have laws that put you in jail for at least 10 years for vote fault, unlike now where you get fined $200.
I know one thing, Wisconsin really went for Bush, but the dems stole the election here, in some black areas there were more votes than voters. </B.
If you don't like a voter ID, then are you willing to fight against the current system of registration at the polls and motor voter? That will be far harder to over turn.
As far as the cost, I am willing to pay for it because we would finally see fair elections. I hope you take the time to rethink your position.
It's either that or we just let the best cheaters win.

Only dems would not want voter ID card, unless you are "Dumb Republican". We lost 5 states to Gore because of voter fraud.
Go here and Freep a Poll on this matter.
