Common misperception. Evolutionary biologists don't claim that we evolved from monkeys. Rather, we had a common genetic ancestor (now extinct) about 5 million years ago if I remember correctly. The recent advent of cheap DNA testing and analysis is showing evidence of a more convoluted and complicated evolutionary history however.
