The flag flies at Abraham Lincoln National (Veterans) Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois
WBBM Newsradio has learned that a federal inspector general has determined that other cities across the country are no better than Chicago had been - up until a few months ago - in giving some deceased veterans a proper burial. Steve Miller reports on the latest chapter following a WBBM investigation, "Buried Without Honors."
The inspector general of the Department of Veterans Affairs checked Chicago a few months ago. And since then, inspectors have decided that L.A., New York, Washington, Seattle and Atlanta haven't done any better in honoring some deceased military veterans.
Sometimes they were just poor. Sometimes they had no next-of-kin. Many times, the military veterans who died in Cook County as "indigents" ended up in a mass county grave in Homewood, instead of where they belonged - at a veterans' cemetery, buried with honors.
After a WBBM Newsradio investigation in the spring, Congress got involved. And so did the inspector general's office of the VA. They investigated here in Cook County - and recommended that the VA regional office in Chicago and the Cook County medical examiner's office open a direct line of communication to make sure that the VA checks the names before the county's monthly burial of indigents - to make sure none is a military veteran.
Now - a nationwide investigation by the VA inspector general has found just what the inspectors found here in Chicago: military veterans buried in mass, unmarked graves.
The VA is now expected to push all of its 54 regional offices around the country to get in direct contact with local medical examiners' offices.

I would guess that many of our homeless are Vietnam vets. These are the ones who are ending up in these graves.

Warning a lot of people who clame to be Veterans ARE NOT. It seems a lot of the homeless like to say there Veit Nam Veterans We have even seen this in college professors. The world is full of WANT-A-BE's Who never were. The realy sad thing is that they often prevent the help from those who realy are Vet's and nead the help.

Given the terrible zoning, self-defense, and gun laws enacted (and being enacted) by the Daley mafia, it is surprising to learn that vets are even ALLOWED to be buried in Chicago anymore.
Queen of Heaven cemetary in Hillside is filled with our war heroes who have passed on; at one time, libs in Chicago cared but now they have become apathetic and liberally evil, they love bin Laden and are glad at what he did. Don't believe me, believe their anti-capitalist, anti-American crap at the DSA, one of Daley's faves. It's no coincidence that they had 'We Love Commie Day' in Milwaukee, they get their cues from Blagoyevich, Tillman, Jesse Jackson, and spoiled Richie Daley.

Yeah, shipping the indigents to Homewood to be buried DOES sound like something the Daleys and the Crook County Board would do.

The ones who put their lives on the line deserve better than a pauper's grave. Much better...
